竹家具 bamboo furniture

　南国というとすぐにヤシの木が思い浮かぶが、じつはバリ島では竹が島の暮らしに深くとけこんでいます。
　家や祠を作る時、あるいは楽器や飾り物に竹が使われております。
　バリには驚くほど太い、丸太のような竹があり、この頑丈な竹を組んだ、居心地のよさそうなソファは、バンガローのテラスなどで見るおなじみの家具です。いかにも南国情緒のインテリア、と思いきや、じつは最初に考えたのは、バリに暮らすヨーロッパのインテリア・デザイナーです。島の風土と異邦人の発想が出会って、バリ工芸のニューウェーブが生まれたそうです。現在ウブドゥから南東へ１０ｋｍ余り、ブラバトゥとボナの村です。ホテルで見る竹家具のほとんどはここで作られているものです。
